Kalamazoo Bike Week events include a Bell's to Bell's ride and special screening of 'Rising from Ashes'
Kalamazoo Bike Week kicks-off on May 9 and to celebrate, we have two events planned at the Eccentric Café.
The first is also part of the Kalamazoo Bicycle Film Festival and will feature a screening of “Rising from Ashes.”
The synopsis:
“Rising from Ashes” is a feature length documentary about two worlds colliding when cycling legend Jock Boyer moves to Rwanda, Africa to help a group of struggling genocide survivors pursue their dream of a national team. As they set out against impossible odds both Jock and the team find new purpose as they rise from the ashes of their past.
Admission is $5 and it will be shown at 6 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. (for those 21 and up) on May 14.
Money raised from ticket sales will go to Team Rwanda (cash or check please). Check out the trailer.
The other event – a Bell’s to Bell’s Bike Ride – will be held on Saturday, May 18. Registration will begin at 12:30 p.m. and at 1 p.m., we’ll ride from the Café to our Comstock Brewery for a tour.
We’ll then head back to the pub for drinks, a raffle and socializing.
Suggested donation is $10 and all proceeds will go to support the Kalamazoo River Valley Trail (KRVT) extension.
Be sure to bring your ID, a bike lock and a helmet.
Kalamazoo Bike Week aims to raise cycling awareness, promote the use of cycling as a means of transportation and explore the possibilities cycling has to offer in terms of enjoyment, health, fitness, and social and environmental benefits.
